STAMFORD, Conn. – January 18, 2017 – Curling Night in America returns for a third consecutive season tomorrowJanuary 19, at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN. The event kicks off more than 150 hours of curling coverage that will air on NBCSN, Universal HD, and NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app, highlighted by the World Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships in March and April.

NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app – NBC Sports Group’s live streaming platforms for desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs – will provide live streaming coverage of all Curling Night and World Curling Championship telecasts.

Coverage of Olympic Sports on NBC Sports Group platforms is a presentation of the Olympic Channel, Home of Team USA.


CURLING NIGHT IN AMERICA
 – BEGINS TOMORROW AT 7:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Curling Night in America features Team USA, as well as China, Japan, and Scotland, and includes one men’s, women’s and mixed doubles team from each nation competing in round-robin tournaments. A points system will be used to determine a winner in each division (men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles), as well as an overall champion.

The Team USA men’s rink is led by 2006 Olympic bronze medalist and three-time Olympian John Shuster, while the Team USA women’s rink is led by skip Nina Roth. 2006 Olympic bronze medalist Joe Polo and Tabitha Peterson represent Team USA in the mixed doubles competition.

Last year, China and Team USA were tied at the end of the overall competition, but China prevailed in a tie-break to win the overall title for the second consecutive year.

Jason Knapp (play-by-play), 2006 Olympic bronze medalist Pete Fenson (analyst), and Tanith White (reporter) provide commentary for all Curling Night in America telecasts. The event took place at the Duluth Curling Club, in Duluth, Minn., from Dec. 1-3.

Following this season’s debut on Thursday, most Curling Night telecasts will air on Friday nights on NBCSN each week through the finale on Friday, March 17. Last season, NBCSN’s 12 Friday night Curling Night in America telecasts averaged 101,000 viewers, up 28% vs. seven Friday night Curling Night telecasts in 2015 (79,000). Six of NBCSN’s 12 Friday night Curling Night in America telecasts drew more than 100,000 viewers, including the most-watched telecast on Friday, February 12 (157,000 viewers, Team USA vs. Japan – Women).

WORLD MEN’S AND WOMEN’S CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

NBCSN, Universal HD and NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app will combine to present more than 100 hours of the World Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships this March and April, including more than 30 hours of live coverage, and presentations of the gold medal games on NBCSN.

Coverage of the World Women’s Curling Championship from Beijing, China, begins Saturday, March 18, with pool play on NBCSN and Universal HD. Universal HD opens live coverage of the World Men’s Curling Championship from Edmonton, Alberta, on Saturday,
April 1.

John Shuster led Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2016 World Men’s Curling Championship in Basel, Switzerland, while the U.S. women finished in sixth at the 2016 World Women’s Curling Championship in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Both U.S. teams still must qualify for the upcoming World Championships. More details regarding NBC Sports Group’s coverage of the World Championships will be announced leading into the event.
