Stage type: Road Race – sprint finish

Length: 216 km/134.2 miles

Route: Troyes to Nuits-Saint-Georges

We have another sprint finish today with one Category 4 climb during the stage.

Four men formed a breakaway at the start of the stage. They were caught at 6 km/3.7 miles to go.

The final part of the race was rather straight. Although early in the last 6 km, the road was divided. This caused an interesting shifting pattern in the peloton from side to side. It was a photo finish between Marcel Kittel and Edvald Boasson Hagen and to the naked eye, it was a tie. After several minutes delay, it was given to Kittel in 5:03:18. This also gave Kittel the green jersey of the points competition.

Kittel had an average speed of 42.3mph during the sprint.

The top of the overall leader board did not change.

  1. Chris Froome – 28:47:51
  2. Geraint Thomas – +:12
  3. Fabio Aru – +:14
  4. Dan Martin – +:25
  5. Richie Porte – +:39
