8/28 Mets @ Yankees – Doubleheader

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

Can the Yankees snap their current losing streak during two games against the Mets?

Game 1

The Yankees start off strong in the first with a single, a run scoring double, a single, and a walk that allows Clint Frazier to score on a wild pitch. Two more runs follow in the second inning with Luke Voit getting on base with a double, Frazier bringing them both home with a home run to right. Yankees lead 4-0.

Mets get on the board in the fifth starting with Dominic Smith hit by a pitch and a fielding error that allows him to get to third. A wild pitch by Jordan Montgomery allows him to reach home.

The first two batters for the Mets in the sixth inning get singles and Montgomery is replaced by Chad Green who gives up a home run to his first batter and the game is tied. Green gets two outs but allows two solo homers to the next two batters. 6-4 Mets.

Yankees get two runners on base in the sixth and go down in order in the seventh.

Mets win 6-4.

Game 2

A slight rain delay had this game starting around 8:40pm rather than 30 minutes after the first. The teams also celebrated Jackie Robinson Day during the game with every player wearing number 42 in his honor. Also the Mets are the home team for this game as it is one that was rescheduled from last weekend.

The Mets strike first a Michael Conforto doubles and then comes home as Smith is caught in a rundown between 1st and 2nd base.

Yankees take the lead in the third starting with a walk and two singles. Voit pops out before another walk to load the bases, a single, and another run scoring walk. Yankees lead 3-2 but the Mike Tauchman grounds into a double play to end the inning.

Fifth inning, Yankees leave the bases loaded and Mets bring the game within one as Nick Nelson gives up a double and a walk. A double play on the next batter leaves a runner at second who would score on another double.

Bottom of the seventh, Aroldis Chapman in to close for the Yankees. He gives up a walk and a home run. Mets win 4-3.

So to answer my question at the beginning of the recap? No, the Yankees cannot snap their current losing streak.

The teams play another doubleheader Saturday.
