9/1 – Rays @ Yankees

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

The Rays and the Yankees are at it again in the Bronx.

DJ LeMahieu gives the Yankees the lead with a lead off home run and another solo shot in the third inning to two different areas of Yankee Stadium.

The Rays would tie it up at two with a two run shot to the second deck by Kevin Kiermaier in the fifth.

The game gets interesting in the sixth. Two runners on, Gio Urshela at the plate. He hits a ball that bounces over the center fielder, Kiermaier, and shoots back to the wall in right. Two runs score. The relay throw home is high and bounces off the glove of pitcher and to the backstop. Urshela races home, sliding under the tag. Yankees lead 5-2. The Rays would challenge the call at the plate, but it would be upheld.

The Rays get another run in the seventh, but fail to catch up to the Yankees who win 5-3.

However, the second to last pitch by Aroldis Chapman would get away from him, just missing Mike Brosseau’s head. The benches clear after the final out and words are exchanged between the teams.

The series is tied at one game a piece. They play the rubber match 9/2.
