HOCKEY IN HIGH HEELS: 2/12 TUNE IN ALERT

STAMFORD, Conn. – February 9, 2017 – NBC Sports presents a “Star Sunday” NHL doubleheader this weekend, beginning with the NHL Game of the Week at 3 p.m. ET on NBC, when Devan Dubnyk and the Minnesota Wild host Henrik Zetterberg and the Detroit Red Wings.

“Star Sunday” shifts to NBCSN at 6:30 p.m. ET with NHL Live, followed by an Original Six clash at 7:30 p.m. ET, when Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins host Shea Weber and the Montreal Canadiens.

Airing most Sundays through the end of the regular season in April, NBC Sports’ “Star Sunday” games will shine a spotlight on a star from each team. The stars selected for each “Star Sunday” will be the focus of pre-game player arrivals and interviews, and will be highlighted in pre-game features and “get-to-know” segments. NBC Sports’ “Star Sunday” game telecasts will include an iso cam on the stars to be utilized for game analysis during intermissions, and scoreboard graphics will let viewers know when these stars are on the ice.

Kenny Albert (play-by-play), U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Eddie Olczyk (analyst), and Emmy Award-winner Pierre McGuire (‘Inside-the-Glass analyst) will call Red Wings-Wild from Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. John Forslund(play-by-play) and Brian Boucher (‘Inside-the-Glass’) will call Canadiens-Bruins from TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

Liam McHugh anchors studio coverage for Red Wings-Wild, alongside analysts and former players Mike Milbury and Keith JonesKathryn Tappen hosts studio coverage of Canadiens-Bruins with Milbury and Jones.

HENRIK ZETTERBERG AND DEVAN DUBNYK

Zetterberg is in the midst of his 14th NHL season, all with the Red Wings, and he has served as Detroit’s captain since January 2013. Zetterberg currently leads the club with 38 points (11g/27a), and has led Detroit in points in each of the last two seasons. He earned the 2008 Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of that season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs, and scored the game-winning goal in Game 6 of the 2008 Stanley Cup Final against Pittsburgh to clinch the Cup for Detroit. The Red Wings (22-21-10, 54 pts) are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to Columbus.

Dubnyk has revived his career with the Wild after being acquired via trade from the Coyotes in 2015. Now in his eighth NHL season between the pipes, Dubnyk is tied for the league lead with 29 wins, and boasts five shutouts on the season, currently tied for third in the NHL. The Wild (35-12-6, 76 pts) lead the Western Conference and are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to Chicago on NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry. Minnesota hosts Tampa Bay on NBCSN tomorrow night prior to its matchup against Detroit on NBC on Sunday.

SHEA WEBER AND BRAD MARCHAND

Defenseman Shea Weber is in the midst of his 12th NHL season, but his first with the Canadiens, after being acquired from the Nashville Predators in a blockbuster trade for defenseman P.K. Subban. Weber leads the team in time on ice (25:36 per game), and has posted 31 points (12g/19a) from the blue line. Montreal (30-17-8, 68 pts) continues to lead the Atlantic Division, eight points clear of Ottawa and Toronto.

Forward Brad Marchand has played eight NHL seasons, all with the Bruins, and was drafted by Boston in the third round of the 2006 NHL Draft. Marchand has already recorded his fourth consecutive 20-goal season this year, and was a pivotal member of the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Bruins. Boston (26-23-6, 58 pts) is just one point behind Philadelphia for the final playoff spot, and will be led by interim head coach Bruce Cassidy, following the firing of long-time head coach Claude Julien on Tuesday.
