YANKEES VS. ASTROS GAME 6-7—WHO’S IN THE WORLD SERIES?

MLB: ALCS Game 6 – Yankees at Astros

By Katie Haskin

Game 6 begins with the pitching matchup from game 2. Will the Yankees keep the momentum going? Will the Astros bounce back? Can Justin Verlander pitch another 9 innings?

Apparently, the answers are no, yes, and no. Verlander managed to hold on until the end of the 7th inning where he started to run out of gas. He walked Greg Bird, grazed Starlin Castro with a ball, also getting a walk. He struck Aaron Hicks out, Todd Frazier hit a fly out which may have been out if not for a flying leap into the back wall. And he struck out Chase Headley, keeping the Yankees scoreless.

The Astros started their offensive comeback in the 5th. Alex Bregman got walked, and Marwin Gonzalez ground out, but allowed Bregman to advance to 2nd. Evan Gattis also got walked and Brian McCann hit a double, allowing Bregman to score. George Springer got walked and Josh Reddick hit a fly out. Jose Altuve hit to deep left field allowing another two runs to score. The Yankees changed pitchers to Brian Green and struck out Carlos Correa to end the inning 3-0 Astros.

They continued the momentum in the 8th starting with a home run by Altuve. Correa hit a double, Yuli Gurriel got a base hit followed by a hit to deep center by Bregman allowing another two runs to score. The last run scored because the pitch to Gary Sanchez at home couldn’t be caught to tag the runner out. The Yankees changed pitchers again to Dellin Betances getting two outs in a row. Betances couldn’t keep McCann from getting another base hit and allowed the final run for the Astros to score.

The Yankees managed to avoid a shut out via a home run from Aaron Judge in the 8th.

Final score was 6-1 Astros with the series tied 3-3. Tomorrow’s game 7 will determine who plays the Dodgers in the World Series. The Astros have the momentum, but the Yankees have CC Sabathia who has a 10-0 win record in games after a loss.

The Astros win The Pennant. With amazing pitching from two of their starters, Charlie Morton and Lance McCullers Jr, they held the Yankees to 0. Astros started their scoring with two single home runs, Evan Gattis in the 4th and Jose Altuve in the 5th. They gained another two runs in the 5th thanks to Brian McCann sending a ball into deep center field allowing Carlos Correa and Yuli Gurriel, both with base hits earlier in the inning, to score.

Justin Verlander was named MVP.

Final score was 4-0 Astros. They will face the L.A. Dodgers in the World Series.
