Sunday, July 12, 2015

Gullane Golf Club (Championship Course), East Lothian, Scotland

On Rickie Fowler (12-under, winner)

Brandel Chamblee – “He did it again. He cut it into 15, flagged it at 16, great iron shot at 17. What two good golf swings to come up with at the 18th… We can talk about the golf swing, and the changes are obvious prior to Butch [Harmon] and after Butch. But it’s the way he plays, he just gets in there and gets after it. ”

Curt Byrum – “When he’s really committed and has good numbers he just gets in there quick and goes.”

Rich Lerner – “Under pressure he is nails… Not just an American star, but a worldwide star… He has not just built a brand, he is building a winning resume.”

Chamblee – “His drive on 18 reminded me of the final drive he hit on the 18th at THE PLAYERS Championship.”

Chamblee – “The difficulty of the day and the inexperience at the top kept anyone from running away with [the tournament].”

On Raphael Jacquelinm (11-under, T-2nd) and Daniel Brooks (9-under, T-7th) ultimately qualifying for the Open Championship

Chamblee – “This final group – Daniel Brooks, 528th in the world, and Raphael Jacquelin, 335th in the world – both of them in danger of losing their cards. Neither of them [prior] in the Open Championship. Both of them secured both of those.”

Chamblee – “There are so many things running through [Brooks’] head when you’re in his position. You don’t want to think about winning, but so much is at stake. He needs to make enough money to get his card, he needs to get into the Open Championship. All those things, it’s like fighting bees in your head.”
