FOOTBALL IN HIGH HEELS: GETTING INTO POSITION

For my next post  for my journey into learning about sports,  I decided to focus on football positions and figure out what each team member does…and what I thought each term meant before I learned the truth. I am not going to lie, learning the truth about what a tight end is completely disappointed me. However, most of them do have nice asses, so I am still technically correct! Here are a few of the ones I learned:

LINEBACKER:

What it is: a defensive player normally positioned behind the line of scrimmage, but in front of the safeties.

What I Thought It Was: For the longest time, I thought it was similar to a line dancer and the one in charge of choreographing those cute touchdown dances.

WIDE RECEIVER:

What It Is: an offensive player who is positioned at a distance from the end and is used primarily as a pass receiver.

What I Thought It Was: He stood there with his arms and legs spread out and waiting to catch the ball.

QUARTERBACK:

What It Is: A player positioned behind the center who directs a team’s offensive play.

What I Thought It Was: The VIP of the team and object of affection of most ladies. I had no clue what he actually did, I just knew in high school dating the quarterback was a very big deal.

TOUCHDOWN:

What It Is: a six-point score made by carrying or passing the ball into the end zone of the opposing side, or by recovering it there following a fumble or blocked kick.

What I Thought It Was: Okay, this is one I actually knew, but how it was scored and the points system still confuses me.

TIGHT END:

What It Is: An offense hybrid position that is both an eligible receiver and who will step into some plays and block the defense. This position combines the attributes of receivers and lineman and will block during a running play or run a route during a passing play. AKA Y receiver and slot receiver.

What I Thought It Was: The guy with the nicest ass. I had no clue what he did on the field, but figured he and his tushy were there for eye candy.
