TV IN HIGH HEELS: TALKING TO STRONG’S DREW LOGAN

TV IN HIGH HEELS: TALKING TO STRONG'S DREW LOGANTV IN HIGH HEELS: TALKING TO STRONG’S DREW LOGAN
From NBC: No one knows the life-saving power of fitness better than Drew. In 2004, he became the only known survivor of three consecutive sudden cardiac arrests. The doctors attributed his survival to his fitness level and lifestyle. As a result of his heart condition, Drew lives with a heart defibrillator and keeps his service dog Lucky by his side at all times. Lucky has logged over 100,000 miles with Drew. In his role as a celebrity trainer, Drew has trained pro athletes, film producers, celebrity agents, managers, musicians, comedians, models and actors. Making it his mission to raise awareness about heart disease and sudden cardiac arrest, as well as the power of health and fitness to drastically change lives, Drew is committed to a healthy lifestyle for himself and his clients. He specializes in dramatic transformations, weight loss and overcoming obstacles and is a member of the International Sports Sciences Association and the American Council on Exercise.

  1. Tell me about yourself and career.

I’m a fitness and nutrition expert, for going on 22 years. I have trained professional athletes, actors, musicians, and clients for movies including The Hunger Games, TV shows – The Flash, and Quantico. I have also trained and toured with music stars including Florida Georgia Line and Keith Urban. In addition to some of my celeb clients I have trained moms, dads, and professionals all looking to reach their full potential physically.

Another part to my personal story is I am the only known medical case to survive 3 Sudden Cardiac Arrests in one night, all without an implanted medical device. I NOW, have an implanted medical device that would shock my heart and keep me alive should I ever have another attack. And I have a Medical Service Dog, Lucky, that is trained to alert me if I have any heart related stress issues. He travels with me wherever I go.

  1. What made you interested in joining Strong?

Two things really, it was an opportunity to have a national platform to change lives through empowering these 10 amazing women through a physical transformation and an opportunity for me to get my own personal story out on a national level in hopes of inspiring people who have had extreme hardship. I wanted to show people that they can still have very active, healthy and productive lives, even in spite of physical limitations or obstacles.

  1. What is the show about?
NBC’s “STRONG” is a competition show like no other. Contestants are embarking on a transformative journey in order to reach their full potential. As they will learn, it’s not necessarily about losing weight, but rather about finding the balance between mind and body. It’s about getting strong. Professional volleyball player and fitness expert Gabrielle Reece hosts the 10-episode series from Executive Producers Dave Broome (“The Biggest Loser”), Oscar-nominated iconic film star Sylvester Stallone, Kevin King Templeton (“Creed”) and Holly Wofford (“American Ninja Warrior”).
Ten women from all walks of life – each looking to improve herself mentally and physically – will join with 10 of the most elite male fitness trainers in the nation. The contestants will train in pairs and work to conquer a series of challenges that push everyone to the limit. In every episode, each two-person team will train together and compete in multiple physical challenges that incorporate a number of formidable obstacles. The challenges will put them to the ultimate test in strength, endurance and mental stamina. As the contestants strive to dominate the courses and the competition, we’ll see flab turn to muscle, doubt turn to confidence and weakness turn to strength. Each week one team will be eliminated, and at the end of every episode, their inspiring transformation will be revealed. The winning team will take home a significant cash prize of up to $500,000, which is a result of their overall performance.
  1. What do you hope to accomplish by being on the show?

I hope to inspire people to help them reach their full potential through getting fit and living a life that is healthy. It’s an honor to be part of STRONG, this show really brings out the competitiveness and drive that many think they don’t have, or have lost somewhere. Watching these women overcome adversity and find their strength is so inspiring to me.

  1. How is this different than other fitness shows?

STRONG requires the trainer to actually do the workouts and challenges WITH the contestant. The trainers are involved in every aspect of the process. We have to practice what we preach with these women and give 110%, to give our trainee the chance of staying in the game as long as possible so they can continue to transform and have an opportunity at winning the grand prize of $500,000!

  1. What is your training specialty?

I am a transformation specialist. I am typically called on when someone has to get in the “best shape of their life” – this requires the perfect combination of training and nutrition. That is where I have made my living for over 2 decades. I have a program called 25Days available on my website www.DrewLogan.com that is available for download for only $25!!! I designed it to help people see that you can do anything for 25 days and in those 25 days your like can transform.

  1. Do you follow a specific routine and diet? If so, what is it?

It is a lifestyle. I eat healthy all the time. I always start my day by drinking 20 ounces of water and then with an hour of cardio work on an empty stomach, then I usually weight train 3 days on and one day off. I include other conditioning work, like sprints or boxing 2-3 days a week. Training is my job – just like people go to work 8-9 hours a day, I am training hard 3-4 hours a day and still seeing clients.

  1. What kind of diet do you recommend for people in training?

There are general rules, but truthfully that is a 3-fold answer: 1. What is your goal? 2. What are you doing already? 3. What kind of training are you going to be doing?

In general a person would want their protein levels to be higher, as well as the healthy Omega-3 fats – these are the 2 most important nutrients needed in muscle repair.

  1. Do you have a favorite cheat food?

Italian food! I love it!

  1. Tell me about your partner.

Sarah Miller is from Chicago, 29, and started out about 175lbs at 5’8”. Sarah had struggled with yo-yo dieting and had put on weight and lost the same 30-40lbs multiple times in her life. She really wasn’t happy with her own inability to maintain a consistency, and that frustration fueled her to want to get expert help. Ultimately she made an astonishing transformation and has been able to keep off all the weight. She is so inspiring.

  1. What was it like working with her?

Sarah is a fun person. She really likes making people laugh and likes being the life of the party, unfortunately that characteristic is a part of a “deflecting” mechanism that we had to get her to break through so that she could focus on really making the change that she wanted to see. In the end she made the fastest transformation on the show.

  1. What is your biggest accomplishment from being on the show? Off the show?

I think my biggest accomplishment associated with being on STRONG, was getting to meet people at various publicity events that we have done and have them come up to me and say, “I was so inspired by your story or survival and that really encouraged me to get up and get moving even though I had experienced health problems myself! I don’t have to give up!” When you hear someone say something like that, it makes everything I have done all my life, have significant meaning.

  1. What would fans be surprised to know about you?

I am actually a pretty good guitar player! I started playing about the same time I started training professionally, and I have never stopped. If I hadn’t gone into fitness, I would have wanted to be a musician.

  1. What are you watching on TV these days?

I really like The Voice (again because I love music) and I am looking forward to the next season of Ray Donovan, as well as Season 2 of Ballers with Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson, and I recently discovered the new show Billions with Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti and I can’t get enough of it!

  1. Anything else you want to tell America?

Be Fit & Healthy! Be Nice! Be Honest! These 3 things are all within our control and will make exponential changes in the world if we all lived by these 3 simple rules – After all…if you don’t control what is wishing your power to control, how do you expect to win the battles in life that are NOT within your control! Find your daily anchor and live by it!
