WASHINGTON – Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy has been named this week’s Community MVP for his continued commitment to serving and uplifting families in need.

On Oct. 10, Lacy hosted a bowling fundraiser for Freedom House, an organization that provides emergency services for families in need. The event marked the second straight year that Lacy has raised benefits for Freedom House, whose mission is one with which Lacy strongly connects.

In 2005, Lacy and his family were among the thousands of victims who lost their home and belongings during Hurricane Katrina. The nightmarish aftermath that he experienced has motivated the fourth-year running back continued commitment to ensuring that other fmailies do not have to endure a similar heartache.

“I feel like I can relate to people in those situations because I was once there myself,” Lacy said. “To able to give back to people is definitely a great deed.”

Several Green Bay companies purchased lanes at The Gutter in Suamico to support Lacy in his efforts to raise funds for the local Freedom House, which supports families in Brown County. Guests were able to bowl for prizes, partake in a raffle and meet Lacy along with several of his Packers teammates, including Randall Cobb, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, David Bakhtiari, Damarious Randall, Davonte Adams and Mike Pennell.

The fundraiser built upon the work Lacy started last year with Freedom House, when he helped organized a food and clothing drive throughout the state of Wisconsin. The Pro Bowler then took the items and donated them, along with $5,000, during a surprise visit to the local Freedom House. Since then, Lacy has served as a honorary board member for Freedom House.

“It makes me feel good because I’m able to give back,” Lacy said.

On behalf of our sponsor Delta Private Jets, the NFLPA will make an in-kind donation to Lacy and his charity of choice for being named this week’s Community MVP. Visit our website to read more and see photos from Lacy’s outreach work.

The NFLPA Community MVP program recognizes NFL players who are making a positive impact in their local communities. Each week during the regular season, the NFLPA will celebrate one active NFL player who has demonstrated a commitment to giving back to his community.

About the NFL Players Association:
The National Football League Players Association is the union for professional football players in the National Football League. Established in 1956, the NFLPA has a long history of assuring proper recognition and representation of players’ interests. The NFLPA has shown that it will do whatever is necessary to assure that the rights of players are protected—including ceasing to be a union, if necessary, as it did in 1989. In 1993, the NFLPA again was officially recognized as the union representing the players, and negotiated a landmark Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NFL. The current CBA will govern the sport through 2020. Learn more at www.nflpa.com.
