Covid-19 Affects MLB East Schedule

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

The Yankees were supposed to play the Phillies the 27th through the 30th. And the Marlins, who just played the Phillies, were supposed to face the Orioles in Miami, followed by the Nationals. However, after the Marlins-Phillies series, 14 Marlins players tested positive for Covid-19. So far, there have been no new positive test results for any other team.

In a statement issued earlier by MLB, the Marlins as a team will be shut down until at least August 2. The Yankees-Phillies series was postponed out of precaution. The Yankees will instead play the Orioles at Camden Yards July 29 and 30. That series was moved up from August 3 and 4..

At this moment, it’s unclear if any further games will be affected, or when the postponed games will be made up. However, it does put the national pandemic into a different light. Baseball is not being played in a bubble, like the NBA, WNBA, and NHL. Teams are traveling between states, and while health and safety protocols are in place, this is now a test as to how well they work.
