8/29 Mets @ Yankees

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

Another day of wearing number 42 in remembrance of Jackie Robinson.

Luke Voit gets the Yankees on the board in the bottom of the first with his 12th home run of the season. Amed Rosario gets on base only to be caught stealing to end the top of the third. DJ LeMahieu gets a triple with a deep line drive to center which sends the Mets right fielder crashing into the wall.

But it will be in vain as Voit would groundout to end the inning.

Fourth inning, Yankees try and add on. Mike Tauchman reaches third after a pickoff attempt gets away from the first baseman. He would be thrown out at home as Clint Frazier reaches first. A double by Brett Gardner sends Frazier home who once again would be called out just before reaching home plate. Score is still 1-0 Yankees.

Yankees start the bottom of the seventh with two walks before two outs. Another walk to load the bases, and a groundout by LeMahieu would leave them that way.

Eighth inning. J.A. Happ has kept the Mets off the board for 7.1 inning and is replaced by Adam Ottavino who gives up a solo homer to Wilson Ramos to tie the game at one.

Bottom of the ninth, score tied, Delin Betances on the mound for the Mets. Frazier walks. Gardner strikes out. Jordy Mercer, who had his first at bat with the team yesterday, hits a single to right which puts Frazier on third. Eric Kratz squares to bunt, Betances pitches over the catcher’s head. Frazier runs home to score the walkoff run.

Yankees win 2-1 and the losing streak has ended.

The teams play another doubleheader tomorrow.
