9/4 Yankees @ Orioles – Doubleheader

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

Yankees enter the day having won 18 straight against the Orioles. Will that streak continue? Or will thier recent losing streak persist?

Game 1

The teams start off the game with a solo home run a piece. Cedric Mullins in the bottom of the first, and Gary Sanchez in the top of the second.

Things get interesting in the top of the third. Tyler Wade leaps over the pitcher who dove across the basepath, trying to catch a ball that rebounded off the first baseman’s glove. He knocks it down, but is unable to pick it up in time to get Wade out. He then steals second base. DJ LeMahieu pops one up to shallow right field and it drops between three players, allowing him to reach and Wade to advance to third. Luke Voit works a walk to load the bases for the Yankees. Brett Gardner hits a single to center. Wade and LeMahieu score. Clint Frazier walk, loading the bases for the second time this inning, with no outs. A line out and a strikeout fix that. Mike Tauchman at bat, keeps fouling off pitches until he walks, driving in Voit. The inning ends with a strikeout. 4-1 Yankees.

The Orioles get two runs in the bottom of the fourth with a 2 run homer by Rio Ruiz. A solo shot in the fifth by Renanto Nunez ties the game at four.

Bottom of the sixth, one out and Zack Britton loads the bases with two walks and a single. Orioles look to take the lead in the game, but Britton dodges a bullet, getting a pop out in foul territory and a force out at second to end the threat.

End of the seventh inning and the game is still tied. The game goes to extra innings.

Top of the ninth. Jonathan Holder, the Yankees’ pitcher in the eighth starts the inning as the runner on second. The strange incident came as the Yankees had lost their DH but using a pinch runner, and now Holder had to bat/run. LeMahieu grounds out, but Holder advances to third. A single by Miguel Andujar allows him to score. Two batters later, Yankees would score another.

Orioles take to the batters box and look to make a come back. Jose Iglesias gets on base, but is thrown out in a double play the next inning, however a run scores. The one run would be all they get.

Yankees win 6-5.

Jonathan Holder gets the win, and a run.

Game 2

The game started out in similar fashion to the first. Ryan Mountcastle his a two run homer to put the Orioles up 2-0 over New York in the second inning.

Wade get on base in the third. He steals second on a wild pitch and advances to third on a wild throw to second. Thairo Estrada grounds out, but allows Wade to score. 2-1 Orioles.

Top of the fourth, Brett Gardner woks a walk. A bad throw to first allows Andujar to reach and both runners to advance an extra base. Erik Kratz drives them both in with a single. 3-2 Yankees.

Bottom of the fifth, Deivi Garcia is struggling in his second out for the Yankees. He walks his second batter but is replaced with two men on base. Yankees bring in Clarke Schmidt for his major league debut. He immediately gives up a hit that ties the game. Another two hits and the Orioles lead 6-3.

The Yankees are unable to come back and their win streak against Baltimore ends.
