9/18 – Yankees @ Red Sox

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

Can the Yankees keep their latest win streak going? So far this season they’ve won every game against Boston.

Bottom of the fourth, Christian Vazquez gets on base with a single. Jackie Bradley Jr. Would repeat that feat. Both runners would steal a base. But it wouldn’t matter in the long run as Christian Arroyo hits a three run home run to left field. 3-0 Red Sox.

Skipping to the top of the seventh, bases loaded via a walk to Giancarlo Stanton, a single by Aaron Hicks, and a walk to Gio Urshela. Two outs. Gary Sanchez fouls off pitches that don’t land in the dirt by Marcus Walden. He finally connects for a ground rule double. 4-2 Red Sox.

Next inning. Aaron Judge hits a single to left field. Stanton hits a double to the left field corner, Judge scores, bringing the Yankees within one run. 4-3 Red Sox.

Top of the ninth. Sanchez blasts one over the green monster to tie the game at four a piece. Red Sox are unable to get a run in the bottom of the ninth and the game enters extra innings.

Tenth inning. The Yankees go down in order. Aroldis Chapman comes in to pitch for the Yankees. He walks Vazquez before getting the next batter to fly out. Both runners steal a base to put both in scoring position. Chapman gets out of the inning with two strikeouts. Sanchez saves a run by snaring a wild pitch.

Eleventh inning. Luke Voit hits the ball to left, deep enough for Mike Tauchman to score from second base. Red Sox get out with a line out and double play. Jonathan Loaisiga pitching for the Yankees and he’s having some trouble with the strike zone. A ball gets past Sanchez, allowing Michael Chavis to move to third. A base hit by Arroyo allows the tying run to score. A sacrifice bunt and the ball is dropped at first base, putting two men on base. Rafael Devers at the plate, he hits the ball into a force out at second and an initial double play at first. The Red Sox challenge the call and it’s overturned, only one out for the Yankees. An intentional walk to Xander Bogaerts. Loaisiga strikes out J.D. Martinez. A high fly ball from Vazquez is caught by Judge to end the inning. Tied at 5-5.

Twelveth inning. Urshela his a ground ball to left field. Hicks stops at third. The next two batters strike out. DJ LeMahieu hits a double, his first hit of the night, to right that allows Hicks to score and Urshela to move to third. Judge grounds out for the final out of the top of the inning. Red Sox come to bat, hoping to come back again. A ground out advances the runner. A fly ball to Aaron Hicks for the second out and a good throw home prevents Vazquez from attempting to score. The final out at first base ends the game just before 12:30am.

Yankees win 6-5.
