8/20 – Rays @ Yankees

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

A must win game for the Yankees to avoid being swept by the Rays.

They started off strong with a solo home run by Luke Voit. He has homered in four games in a row. New York adds another run in the eighth with Mike Tauchman scoring on a groundout by Gleyber Torres who’s knee appeared to buckle on him as he was running to first.

The Rays strike back in the fifth. James Paxton gives up two walks and a wild pitch before Joe Wendle doubles, allowing two runs to score, tying the game. Another walk before a sac fly allows Tampa Bay to take the lead. 3-2 Rays. But the Yankees weren’t giving up just yet. Voit gets on base and Gio Urshela hits a home run to bring them both home. 4-3 Yankees.

Adam Ottavino pitching in the sixth allowing a double off the bat, followed by a walk. Two outs before a single by Manuel Margot allows a run to score, once again tying the game. A pitching change doesn’t help the Yankees as the Rays hit a single, a three run homer and another double before the Yankees can get out of the inning. 8-4 Rays. Voit would drive in a run in the bottom of the inning, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Rays add two more in the ninth and the Yankees go down in order.

Rays win 10-5 and sweep the Yankees.

Yankees play the Mets at Citi Field this weekend.

Rays head home to host the Blue Jays.
